Origin and History

The Armazém das Artes was born from an initiative linked to the valorization of contemporary creation in Portugal, playing a relevant role in the dissemination of national artists. The figure of José Aurélio, a sculptor recognized in the Portuguese art scene, was decisive in the genesis of the space, imprinting it with a sensitive orientation towards sculpture and the careful presentation of pieces.

Over time, the space has consolidated itself as a meeting point between creators, curators, and the public, hosting temporary exhibitions with curatorial approaches that seek to establish dialogues between forms, materials, and ideas. The interior geometry, with cutouts, ramps, and balconies, gives the space the sensation of an inverted cavern: a sequence of clear spaces where depth is progressively revealed.
