Erected in the 16th century, the Cela Pillory is a significant historical landmark linked to the ancient Coutos of Alcobaça.
It received this structure after the granting of the Manueline charter, standing out as a symbol of local autonomy.
Located in the square of the Main Church, it has a platform on three raised circular steps.
The cylindrical shaft is smooth and supports a capital decorated with hexagonal elements and quatrefoil florets.
Crowned by a large prismatic pine cone, the pillory displays an armillary sphere and a crowned national shield, distinctive symbols of the Manueline period.
In addition to its architectural beauty, the Cela Pillory represents the history and local identity, standing out as an important monument in the Alcobaça region.
