Located in the Relva area, more specifically in the locality of Ortigosa, this agromuseum benefits from a setting that still reflects the rural characteristics of the municipality of Leiria. Its location provides an authentic approach to the landscape and environment that inspired its creation, being inserted in a context that invites tranquility and the discovery of the region's agricultural heritage.
The Dona Julinha Municipal Agromuseum was born from the recovery of the old «Casa Agrícola Pereira Alves de Matos Carreira», one of the great agricultural estates in the Leiria region since the late 19th century. This museological project began with the generous donation of part of the property's assets by D. Maria Leonilde, affectionately known as "Dona Julinha". The primary objective was to preserve and make accessible to the community the rich heritage and memories of the rural world that once profoundly marked local life.
The collections exhibited at the Agromuseum are, for the most part, from the Casa Agrícola Pereira Alves de Matos Carreira itself. It is possible to observe a wide range of agricultural implements, from plows and harrows to sickles and hoes, which illustrate fieldwork. Also highlighted are traditional means of transport, tools related to viticulture, and various objects of rural daily life, which together recreate the work and leisure environments and experiences of that era, offering a glimpse into life in the rural community of Leiria.
In addition to the objects, the Agromuseum integrates what is known as "living assets" into its permanent exhibition. Here, one can find poultry, bringing life and sound to the space, and various horticultural species cultivated in the old gardens of the house. A remarkable centennial Portuguese oak, among other arboreal species, also forms part of this natural heritage, contributing to a more immersive and complete experience of the agricultural environment of yesteryear.
