The Municipal Park is located in Trancoso, in a higher and quieter area of the town, integrated into the São Pedro and Santa Maria urbanization. Its position offers a serene environment and a welcoming escape from the urban pace, inviting visitors to rest and stroll in a well-maintained natural setting.
This green space originated from a late 19th-century project, when it was conceived in 1886 as a municipal nursery. Its transformation into a botanical park occurred a decade later, in 1896, through the careful planting of various tree species. Currently, the Municipal Park houses a vast collection of trees, with over 650 specimens distributed across more than forty different species. Many of these specimens are of exotic origin, and some are already over a hundred years old, giving the space remarkable botanical and landscape value. Its importance has been recognized by its classification as Public Interest Tree Group since 2004.
The Municipal Park of Trancoso retains the design of its early days, presenting a style that combines romantic and eclectic elements. This tranquil space invites strolls and contemplation, through a network of organic paths that wind among dense vegetation plots. At its heart, a delicate granite ashlar water mirror, shaped like a quatrefoil, stands out, complementing the peaceful atmosphere. The park is delimited by a continuous granite masonry wall, with a main wrought-iron gate, suggesting an entrance to a secluded and traditional garden.
