The Sabugal Nativity Scene is located in the heart of the city of Sabugal, in its historic center. This central location places the installation within a consolidated urban environment, allowing for easy access and an integrated experience within the life of the locality.
Distinct in its dimension and characteristics, the Sabugal Nativity Scene is recognized as the largest natural nativity scene in the country. It spans an area of approximately 1500 square meters, integrating elements of local nature into its essence. Its unique composition is based on the use of indigenous materials, such as centuries-old tree trunks, which shape the scenery and lend authenticity and a deep connection to the surrounding environment.
More than a traditional representation, this nativity scene invites a sensory experience and a moment of reflection. Its design, which combines tradition with innovation, seeks to elicit new perspectives and interpretations, offering a space to contemplate the past, present, and future. The setting, which plays with reality and utopia through timeless lines, is designed to evoke a series of themes of current society, such as history, family, identity, community, and sustainability. This project results from an artistic collaboration, notably with visual artist Beatriz Rodrigues, giving it a unique cultural dimension and symbolic depth.
