The Roman settlement in Vale do Mouro is situated in the serene locality of Coriscada, an integral part of the municipality of Mêda, in the district of Guarda. Set within a predominantly rural landscape, this archaeological site offers an environment of remarkable tranquility, inviting an experience of contact with the Roman past in a setting of quietude and natural beauty.
This settlement reveals an important Roman presence, extending over a significant area of approximately three hectares. Archaeological discoveries at the site have been unveiling a complex of structures that once constituted this community. Among the most relevant findings, a bathhouse has been identified, an essential element of Roman daily life, fundamental for hygiene and social interaction of the time.
Additionally, the foundations of two distinct dwellings have been uncovered: one interpreted as the residence of the settlement's administrator and a second house, suggesting a specific social and functional organization. These structures offer a glimpse into the lives of the inhabitants of this ancient occupation, revealing aspects of their domestic architecture and community organization.
The Vale do Mouro site remains an active place of study and continuous revelation. Archaeological excavations have succeeded one another over time, deepening the knowledge about the Roman occupation in this region and bringing to light new elements and artifacts.
