Highlights include the three corbels with Christ crucified between Our Lady and Saint John the Evangelist, altarpieces in gilded and polychrome carved wood, side chapels, and an interior chapel.
The Church of Santo António, the cloister, and the ruins of the convent have been classified as being of public interest.
The convent was founded in 1727 by decree of D. João V and construction began in 1731.
The convent operated until 1834, when the Law of Extinction of Religious Orders led to its closure. At the beginning of the 20th century, a fire destroyed a large part of the complex.
In 1983, a recovery project began led by architect José Duarte Madeira.
