The Trancoso Multi-purpose Pavilion is located in one of the urban areas of the town, specifically in the São Pedro and Santa Maria and Souto Maior zone. Its position is marked by a vast outdoor space, a large square that extends towards the historic Portas d’El Rei (King's Gates). This characteristic gives the location an integration with the oldest part of the village, offering an open environment with a visual connection to Trancoso's past.

Conception and Architecture

This modern facility was designed by the renowned architect Gonçalo Byrne, a prominent figure in contemporary Portuguese architecture. Inaugurated in 2003, the pavilion was conceived to be a versatile and functional infrastructure, capable of hosting a diversity of activities. Its construction represented a significant advancement in the provision of suitable spaces for events and initiatives in the region.

Center for Events and Traditions

The Multi-purpose Pavilion plays a crucial role in Trancoso's cultural and economic life, serving as the main venue for various regional events. Here, important exhibitions of local products take place, such as the Smoked Meats Fair (Feira do Fumeiro) and the Chestnut Fair (Feira da Castanha), which celebrate the flavors and knowledge of the land. It is also in this space that the emblematic Saint Bartholomew's Fair (Feira de São Bartolomeu) is held, a historic event with deep roots. Established in 1273 by King D. Afonso III, this free fair is one of the oldest and most notable in Portugal, continuing to perpetuate a secular tradition of conviviality and trade.
