The Municipal Library Park is located in the town of Sabugal, integrated into its urban fabric, within the municipality of the same name. It is positioned as an accessible and recognizable landmark within the locality, reflecting its importance as a central public space in the community.
The central element of this park is the building that houses the Municipal Library. This property has a past that dates back to its original function as the Sabugal Secondary Externato, giving it an established architectural presence in the town. Between 2000 and 2001, the building underwent a requalification and adaptation project, culminating in its reopening on June 1, 2001. This intervention allowed for the modernization of its infrastructures, ensuring that the space remains current and well-maintained for visitors.
Beyond its physical structure, the Municipal Library Park of Sabugal is a point of cultural convergence and preservation of local memory. Inside, the Jesué Pinharanda Gomes Study Center stands out, inaugurated on June 9, 2012. This center is a valuable repository that houses the extensive bibliographic collection, with about five thousand books, of Pinharanda Gomes, a prominent figure in the region's culture. In addition to the books, the space holds a collection of medals, decorations, and other personal gifts that the writer donated to the Municipality of Sabugal, transforming it into a place of study and homage to his legacy.
