The Pinhel Municipal Museum is located in the heart of the city's Historic Centre. It is housed in a historic building, the former Town Hall, located in Praça Sacadura Cabral.
This 18th-century building is integrated into Pinhel's old urban fabric, possessing its own architectural value that complements a visit to the museum's collection.
The museum's creation dates back to the mid-20th century. Since then, it has played a fundamental role in collecting and preserving the municipality's cultural heritage.
Its purpose is to safeguard and disseminate a vast collection of tangible and intangible testimonies that tell the story and project the local community's identity to visitors.
The Pinhel Municipal Museum's collection is characterized by its heterogeneous nature, offering a broad overview of different aspects of the region's history and culture.
The collections cover periods ranging from the Paleolithic to the present day, allowing visitors to trace a journey through time and discover various heritage manifestations. One of the highlighted collections is the exhibition of sacred art, including several pieces of sculpture.
One of the most interesting aspects of the museum is its physical and symbolic connection to one of Pinhel's most emblematic monuments: the Castle.
The two surviving towers of the old Castle structure are integrated into the museum's space. This offers a unique opportunity to explore these important defensive constructions as part of the visit to the museum's collection.
