Situated in the peaceful village of Lamegal, in the municipality of Pinhel, this museum is located at the heart of the community. Its central location within the village makes it easily accessible, inviting a serene discovery of local traditions and history.
The Ethnographic Museum Professora Maria José Ferreira Sares Capelo was born from a profound desire to preserve the memory and cultural identity of Lamegal. It is a project driven by the dedication of Professor Maria José Capelo, a native of the village, who always championed the importance of "Preserving Memory is investing in the future". This space embodies that vision, offering visitors an opportunity to understand the roots and values of a vibrant community.
Within its doors, the museum reveals a treasure trove of crafts and knowledge that shaped the daily lives of the people of Lamegal. Visitors can explore environments that recreate the workshops of once essential masters, such as the saddler, the carpenter, the blacksmith, and the weaver. These meticulously designed spaces allow for an immersion in traditional techniques and tools that, although their use has diminished, continue to be a fundamental part of the region's cultural heritage.
Beyond the crafts, the museum offers a glimpse into life in times past. A section is dedicated to recreating an old primary school, transporting visitors to the learning environment of previous generations. There is also a special room that celebrates the Auto dos Pastorinhos, a cultural symbol of great relevance to Lamegal, highlighting its importance and perpetuating the memory of this unique artistic manifestation.
