The Parish Church of Nave Redonda, dedicated to Saint James, is located in the small village of Nave Redonda, which belongs to the municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. This predominantly rural locality is situated within the historic area of Castelo Rodrigo, offering visitors an atmosphere of tranquility and tradition in inland Portugal. The church occupies a central position in the community, reflecting its importance in the daily life and history of the village.
Built in the second half of the 17th century, the Church of Saint James features a longitudinal layout. It comprises a main nave, followed by a slightly narrower chancel, to which a sacristy is attached. Its main facade, with a sober design, is topped by a gable and a simple bell tower that rises above the ensemble. The entrance portal is distinguished by its straight lintel, an architectural detail characteristic of the period in which it was erected.
Upon entering the church, visitors' attention will naturally be drawn to the main altarpiece. This is a remarkable example of gilded carving, fitting into the national style, a highly significant artistic current in Portugal during the 17th century. The richness of its details and the quality of its execution testify to the artistic refinement of the time. Complementing this main ensemble are the side altarpieces, positioned at an angle in the nave, which enrich the space with their presence and express the devotion and aesthetic taste of the era.
