, The parish of Santa Maria de Carapito already existed in the 12th century.

, The municipality of Carapito was created by D. Manuel I in 1514, through a new charter.

, Carapito was integrated into the municipality of Aguiar da Beira in 1836.

Pillory Description

, Base: Consisting of five octagonal steps with a rounded edge.

, Column: Smooth and octagonal in section, with a square base chamfered at the corners.

, Capital: Annular, decorated with pearls between two octagonal frames.

, Top: Large cage formed by two pyramidal trunks with an octagonal base, supported by a smooth central column and eight lateral ones. The lateral columns have decorated corbels and small pinnacles at the top.

Architectural Details

, Two lateral columns are damaged, and one is missing.

, The cage's hat is reinforced by iron spikes and topped by a pinnacle with a small sphere and a wrought iron weathervane.

, Classified as a Property of Public Interest since October 11, 1933.
