Located in Largo de Santo Antão, on a high point in the village of Valhelhas, about 150 meters from the Famalicão stream. It is situated near an old Roman road and a historic fountain.
Construction dates back to the 16th century. It underwent changes over the centuries, including works in the 17th century and renovations in the 20th century, such as the opening of side windows and the creation of the main altarpiece.
A small chapel, with a simple form and exposed stone facade. The covered porch stands out, supported by Tuscan columns, with a welcoming and traditional appearance.
Above the main entrance, there is an inscription left by locals residing in Lisbon. On the porch, there is a pulpit with the date 1674 engraved on a stone.
The floor is tiled, the walls are covered with old tiles, and the wooden ceiling is painted blue. The main altar has an altarpiece painted to imitate marble, with gilded details. In the center is the image of Santo Antão (Saint Anthony), flanked by images of Santa Águeda (Saint Agatha) and Santa Luzia (Saint Lucy).
It is located in a quiet area, isolated from the center, with a view over the stream. The space conveys peace and preserves the typical rural environment of the region.
In the past, the square in front of the chapel was used as a livestock market. An old fountain with a stone inscription can still be seen nearby.
Easy pedestrian and road access. Ideal to include in a walk through the village of Valhelhas.
