The Chapel of Our Lady of Nazaré is located in Sítio da Nazaré, in the locality of Cabeça, part of the municipality of Seia. It stands isolated on the top of a hill, a position that grants it an atmosphere of calm and views over the surrounding landscape. This elevated location allows one to enjoy a serene setting, characteristic of the Serra da Estrela region, away from the hustle and bustle and immersed in rural tranquility.

Origin and Legacy

Built at the end of the 18th century, the Chapel of Our Lady of Nazaré has served, ever since, as a place of worship and a landmark in the history of the community of Vide and Cabeça. Over time, the building underwent interventions that shaped its current form; records indicate a renovation between 1899 and 1900, and a more recent restoration in 1978, demonstrating the importance and preservation of this local heritage.

Architectural Features

The chapel features simple and traditional religious architecture. Its main gable facade is topped by a cross. A segmental arch portal, flanked by moldings, a frieze, and a cornice, marks the main entrance, above which a similarly framed window opens. To the left, a two-story bell tower stands out, with the upper story pierced by a round-arch window, lending a distinctive touch to this space of devotion.

Center of Devotion and Celebration

Maintaining its religious use since its construction, the Chapel of Our Lady of Nazaré continues to be an active place of faith for the inhabitants of the region. It is here that annually, on August 15th, they gather to celebrate Our Lady of Nazaré, an event that strengthens community ties and the cultural and spiritual traditions rooted in this mountainous territory.
