Baleeira Beach is located in the Albufeira marina area, flanked by its protective jetties. It is integrated into the Algarve coast, with views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Situated in this more sheltered area, the cove is naturally delimited: to the north, by the access channel to Albufeira Marina; to the south, by a ramp traditionally used to launch or retrieve small fishing boats from the water.
This beach stands out for its shell-like shape and its more secluded dimension. The sand has a beige hue, with the presence of some rocky areas that enrich its landscape.
It is a place whose appearance transforms with the tides. At high tide, a significant portion or even most of the sandy area can become submerged, altering the available beach area.
The name "Baleeira" refers to a particular historical connection with the region's maritime activity. It translates, literally, as "Whaling Beach," suggesting that this location was, in past times, associated with whaling or the presence of whales in its waters.
The surroundings of Baleeira Beach offer a landscape dominated by rocky cliffs and typical coastal vegetation, providing a natural setting. From here, it is possible to have interesting perspectives on the ocean and the area near the Albufeira lighthouse.
Its location, next to an area linked to fishing, gives it a calmer and less frenetic atmosphere than other urban beaches in Albufeira. The waters in this cove tend to be shallow, characteristics suitable for the circulation of small vessels.
