Its foundation is linked to a deep popular tradition: legend has it that the image of the patron saint, Nossa Senhora da Conceição, was found in the nets of local fishermen, establishing a symbolic connection between faith, the sea, and the people of Quarteira. The church is the centre of the celebrations in honour of the patron saint, which take place annually on December 8th.
