Praia dos Três Irmãos is located in the Alvor area, within the municipality of Portimão. It marks the beginning of the more rocky and rugged area to the east, contrasting with the vast sandy beach that extends to the west, forming the large bay of Alvor.
The name "Praia dos Três Irmãos" (Beach of the Three Brothers) derives from the three iconic rock formations that stand out on the eastern side of the sandy beach. This area of the beach is characterized by the prominent presence of cliffs and rocks sculpted by the action of the sea and wind. These formations create a dramatic coastal landscape, with small coves, natural arches, and even some caves that invite exploration.
The experience in the rocky area is greatly influenced by the tide. During low tide, it becomes possible to walk among the various small bays and coves that form between the rocks, revealing previously inaccessible passages and nooks. It is an ideal time to explore the complexity of this rugged coast on foot.
In contrast to the rocky area to the east, to the west, Praia dos Três Irmãos merges into an extensive and wide sandy beach that stretches for several kilometers. This part of the beach is flanked by an important dune system, which shelters coastal flora adapted to this environment and serves as a habitat for various species of birds and small animals. It offers a more open and spacious environment.
The end of the day at Praia dos Três Irmãos offers a unique natural spectacle. The view of the sunset from this sandy beach is frequently mentioned as a scenic moment to be enjoyed, with the sky's colors reflecting on the water and sand, creating a visually rich environment.
