Cavacos Beach is located in the Aldeia de Marim area, integrated into the locality of Águas Santas, in the municipality of Olhão. It is an estuary beach, situated in the heart of a salt marsh area. It is adjacent to a cluster of cabins that support local fishing and shellfish gathering activities.
A small bay, where various boats are often anchored, marks this landscape. The surrounding area is characterized by the presence of shimmering salt pans, which complement the natural environment of the Ria.
The area surrounding Cavacos Beach is particularly interesting for nature observation. Both in the salt marsh and in the salt pans, one can find flora adapted to saline environments, known as halophyte plants. The fauna includes crustaceans, such as crabs, which inhabit the mud and the banks.
This place is particularly rich in birds, being a point of interest for those who enjoy observing wading birds. The birds search for food in the mudflats with their long beaks, and it is common to spot black-winged stilts, avocets, godwits, or sandpipers. It is also possible to see white storks, flamingos, and various herons and egrets exploring the area.
Cavacos Beach stands out for its serene and calm environment. Being an estuary beach, the waters tend to be sheltered and tranquil, providing conditions for activities such as relaxing swims, canoeing, or stand-up paddleboarding.
The peaceful atmosphere of the place invites relaxation, with the quietude only occasionally interrupted by the sound of trains circulating on the railway line, located behind the beach.
One of the most characteristic and visual elements of Cavacos Beach is the cluster of cabins that line the sandy area. These constructions, linked to the traditions of fishing and shellfish gathering in the region, give the place a distinctive appearance.
The presence of these traditional structures, along with the small boats resting in the bay, creates a scene that reflects the local community's connection to the Ria and its ancestral activities.
