Praia do Vau is situated on the coastal area of Portimão, within the Vau da Rocha region. This beach is flanked by warm-toned cliffs, characteristic of the Algarve coast. It stretches along a golden sandy beach, bathed by generally calm waters. Its position offers views of the surrounding natural landscape, marked by rock formations.

It is possible to access the top of the cliffs via a boardwalk. This elevated path offers a different perspective on the beach and the sea, and also marks the beginning of a trail that follows the coastline, showcasing the beauty of the natural surroundings.

The Cliff Landscape

The cliffs bordering Praia do Vau are notable for their ocher and golden colors, sculpted over time by the action of natural elements. This erosion has created indentations and small nooks at the base of the cliffs, which provide areas of greater privacy on the sand. The landscape is dominated by these rock formations that rise above the sand.

On the western side of the beach, a large isolated rock stands out on the sand. The beauty of these natural structures is undeniable, but it is prudent to maintain some distance from the base of the cliffs due to the possibility of landslides or rockfalls, a natural phenomenon on this type of coastline.

A Place for Family Enjoyment

Praia do Vau is known for its generally calm environment, in contrast to more bustling areas of the region. The bay's configuration, sheltered by the cliffs, contributes to the sea having little swell most of the time. This serenity makes the beach particularly appealing for families with children, who find safe conditions here for playing, especially during low tide.

Access and Quality Recognition

Pedestrian access to Praia do Vau is considered easy. There is also a ramp that facilitates access to the sand for people with reduced mobility, ensuring greater accessibility. The water quality and basic beach amenities are annually recognized with the Blue Flag award, a European symbol of environmental and safety quality. During the defined bathing season, beach surveillance is ensured by the presence of lifeguards.
