Vale da Lama Beach is located in the Maranhão area, in the locality of Odiáxere, belonging to the municipality of Lagos. It is situated at the eastern end of the vast stretch known as Meia Praia. This place holds a particular position, bordered to the east by the mouth of the Alvor Estuary. Its proximity to this estuary and the Atlantic Ocean creates a diverse landscape in its surroundings.
Characterized by an extensive sandy beach, about one kilometre long, Vale da Lama Beach offers ample space for visitors. Its golden sandy beach invites long walks along the seashore or simply enjoying the sun in a tranquil setting. The presence of shells on the sand is a common feature.
One of the distinctive aspects of this location is its relationship with the Alvor Estuary. The beach is bordered to the east by a pontoon that marks the estuary's bar, creating a transition point between the calm waters of the estuary and those of the ocean. A short distance to the northeast, there is a small lagoon associated with the mouth of the Odiáxere Stream, which is interesting for birdwatching.
The surroundings of the beach include dune systems with typical vegetation, contributing to its natural character. The landscape offers views of the mouth of the Alvor Estuary and, in the distance, of the city of Lagos. The atmosphere is generally serene and conducive to relaxation, standing out for its tranquility compared to more bustling areas of Meia Praia.
The Vale da Lama area and its surroundings bear indications of its long history, with the presence of vestiges of ancient Roman settlements nearby. This aspect offers additional interest for those keen on history. At times, it is still possible to spot traditional Portuguese fishing boats in the area, elements that reflect the local maritime culture.
