Praia do Sítio da Fábrica beach is located in the area of Vila Nova de Cacela, belonging to the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António. It is situated at the eastern end of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, occupying a sand spit or barrier island that separates it from the lagoon.
From this point, one can enjoy views of the ocean, and across the arm of the lagoon, the fishing village of Sítio da Fábrica and the mouth of the Ribeira do Junco stream are visible, elements that define the surrounding landscape.
The beach stretches along a very wide sandy area, approximately one kilometre and one hundred meters long. It is characterized by a delicate dune cordon that runs along the coastline.
The shape of this sandy area and the small islets surrounding the lagoon are constantly altered by the action of tides and currents, creating a dynamic and ever-changing landscape that varies significantly throughout the day and the seasons.
Integrated into the Ria Formosa Natural Park, this beach offers a natural and tranquil environment. It is a refuge for coastal flora, with dune vegetation adapted to this ecosystem, and for various bird species that seek shelter and food in this area.
The vastness of the sandy area and its natural position, separated from the urban area, contribute to a sense of peace and isolation, making it an ideal spot for those seeking closer contact with coastal nature and silence.
The name of the beach derives from the village of Sítio da Fábrica, located on the opposite bank of the lagoon. This nominal connection highlights the historical relationship of the beach with this community, traditionally linked to fishing and lagoon activities, and its interdependence with this unique ecosystem.
