Pintadinho Beach is located in the Vale de Areia area, within the town of Ferragudo, which belongs to the municipality of Lagoa. This beach is situated north of a distinctive promontory known as Ponta do Altar, which extends into the sea.
It is one of the beaches that develop along the coast immediately after the mouth of the Arade River, marking the beginning of the beaches in the municipality of Lagoa, south of the river's entrance.
With a west-facing orientation, from Pintadinho's sandy beach, visitors can enjoy an interesting panorama. The view extends over the mouth of the Arade River, where jetties delimiting the river's entry into the sea can be observed. In the background, it is possible to glimpse the marina and the skyline of Portimão city, on the opposite bank.
To the south, the landscape is marked by the presence of Ponta do Altar, which serves as a natural frame for this side of the beach. The combination of the maritime view with the riverside and urban landscape on the opposite side gives the location a dynamic visual.
Pintadinho Beach is flanked by cliffs displaying warm tones, characteristic of the region's geology. These cliffs protect the sandy area and are the result of the sea's erosive action on limestone over time.
Erosion has given rise to notable formations, such as caves visible at the base of Ponta do Altar and an impressive natural arch with two openings on the cliff to the north side of the beach. Native vegetation of the Algarve barrocal and coastal areas, with species such as mastic tree and myrtle, extends close to the coastline, complementing the natural beauty of the scenery. It is also possible to detect traces of marine fossils embedded in the rocks of the cliffs.
Pintadinho Beach's sandy area is a good size, offering space to visitors. Its configuration, nestled between the cliffs, provides natural shelter, making it less exposed to winds. The sea is usually calm and suitable for swimming, contributing to a relaxed and safe environment.
This sheltered character, together with the serenity of the place, makes Pintadinho Beach a pleasant space to enjoy the sun and the sea, in a setting dominated by the beauty of the rock formations and the view of the river mouth.
The Ponta do Altar promontory is a significant landmark adjacent to the beach. It extends into the sea, defining the southern limit of the bathing area. At the top of this coastal elevation, there are structures that mark the landscape: the Ponta do Altar Lighthouse, which supports navigation, and a radar tower.
These elements built on the crest of the promontory complement the natural environment of the beach and are visible from the sandy area, reinforcing the visual identity of the place.
