Praia do Lacém Mar is located in Cabanas de Tavira, in the municipality of Tavira, integrated into the eastern edge of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. It stretches along a rugged stretch of Atlantic coast, opposite a narrow branch of saltwater that separates the sandy beach from Cabanas Island.
This coastal segment opens onto the Atlantic Ocean, offering a setting where the blue of the sea contrasts with the soft green of the salt marshes and the golden yellow of the coastal dunes.
The beach is vast, flat, and composed of fine sand, shaped into parallel ridges along the coastline. In the rear, low dune mounds covered with Ammophila arenaria (marram grass) provide some wind shelter. The width of the sandy strip allows for long walks, especially towards the east, where the beach gently extends.
At low tide, an extensive carpet of sunlit mudflats is revealed, intensifying the unique aroma of this coastal wetland. In the late afternoon, the low-angled light enhances the textures of the sand and dunes, making the scenery even more harmonious.
In addition to the typical dune vegetation, the dominant environment is the salt marsh, with tidal channels and mudflats where small crustaceans and mollusks thrive. It is common to observe various coastal birds, such as snipes and sandpipers, rummaging in the mud for food.
Throughout the year, but especially in spring and autumn, the song of passerine birds inhabiting the canal banks overlays the sound of the waves. At certain times, it is possible to encounter naturists, attracted by the tranquility and privacy that this stretch of coast offers.
