This beach is located in the Vale de Lobo area, part of the town of Almancil, which belongs to the municipality of Loulé. It lies on the Atlantic coast of the Algarve and marks the western boundary of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a site of great ecological importance.
Praia do Garrão (Nascente) stands out for its extensive sandy shore, inviting long walks by the sea. Along the coastline, there is a well-preserved dune system and a pine forest, which provide a natural environment to the surroundings. In one part of the beach, there is a low-lying cliff covered by creeping vegetation, adding a variation to the coastal scenery.
The natural landscape is one of this beach's strong points. In addition to the dunes and pine forest, there is a freshwater lagoon near this part of the beach, a less common feature on the coastline and an interesting wetland area. A network of wooden boardwalks has been created to cross the dune area, protecting the fragile ecosystem and allowing visitors to observe the typical and aromatic flora of the coastal sands up close.
The water and environmental quality of Praia do Garrão (Nascente) is recognized through various distinctions awarded over time. Flags such as the Blue Flag, the Gold Flag, and the designation of Accessible and Zero Pollution Beach are examples of the recognition for excellence and the conditions offered to visitors, as well as for the environmental management of the site.
