Burgau Beach is located in the village of Burgau, which belongs to the municipality of Vila do Bispo. This beach is situated in a protected bay, framed by natural elements and the village itself. To the west, the bay is delimited by a cliff. To the east, the sandy area meets the slope where the village of Burgau is developed. The village houses descend towards the sea, creating a unique setting where the coastal environment merges with the urban fabric.
The sandy area of Burgau Beach forms a cove. The extent of the sandy area can vary according to the tides and seasons of the year. The bay benefits from a sheltered position. The cliff to the west and the village slope to the east help protect the sandy area from winds, particularly those blowing from the north.
The waters at Burgau Beach are, most of the time, calm and transparent, making them suitable for a peaceful swim. When the sea has some swell, the beach can be sought after by bodyboarders. At low tide, near the rocky area at the eastern end of the beach, small natural pools form. In these spaces, it is sometimes possible to observe some small marine organisms.
A particular characteristic of Burgau Beach is the presence of clay in its sandy area. It is not uncommon to see people using this clay, spreading it over their bodies. This practice is associated with the popular belief in its beneficial properties for the skin.
The village of Burgau contributes significantly to the beach's atmosphere. With its narrow streets and light-colored houses, the village maintains a traditional and picturesque air as it descends towards the bay. Climbing the village slope, in the easternmost area, offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy a panoramic view over the entire bay and the integration of the beach with the locality.
