Odeceixe Beach is located at the mouth of the Seixe River, on the border between the Algarve and Alentejo regions, making it one of the first Algarve beaches for those coming from the north along the Vicentine Coast.
Situated within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, the beach offers a stunning landscape, surrounded by cliffs and with an incredible view over the sea and the river.
This beach is unique in that it allows you to choose between swimming in the sea or the river. The sea is ideal for surf and bodyboard enthusiasts, while the calm waters of the river are perfect for families with children. During low tide, small lagoons form on the sand, ideal for the little ones.
Access to the beach is easy from the village of Odeceixe, which is about 3 km away. During the summer, there is a tourist train that connects the village to the beach, avoiding the use of cars. The beach has toilets, cafes, restaurants, and rental services for parasols and sun loungers. Parking can be more complicated during peak season.
Odeceixe Beach is popular for activities such as surfing, bodyboarding, canoeing on the river, and walking tours in the surrounding area. There are also small trails to explore the cliffs and viewpoints.
It is a popular place for families due to the safety, surveillance during the bathing season, and the tranquility of the river area, which allows for safe and relaxed bathing.
In 2012, it was elected one of the "7 Wonders, Beaches of Portugal" in the category of cliff beaches, which reflects its beauty and natural importance.
In the summer, the beach can fill up quickly, so it is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot. For those looking for more tranquility, it is possible to explore nearby coves that are less crowded.
