Situated in the locality of Budens, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, Cabanas Velhas Beach is a coastal space that extends along the Atlantic Ocean. This site is distinctly marked by the presence of imposing limestone cliffs that frame the sandy shore, creating a natural setting and a sheltered atmosphere.
The slopes that rise above the beach have a cover of pine trees and Mediterranean vegetation, contributing to the wild beauty and sense of tranquility found there, providing unobstructed views over the coastline.
This beach, sometimes also known as Almádena Beach, has a historical connection to the fishing activities of the region. Its name, "Cabanas Velhas" (Old Huts), harks back to the old rudimentary structures used by fishermen that once dotted the sand, even though they are no longer visible today.
The beach stretches for a length of approximately five hundred meters; however, the width of its sandy area is quite variable. During high tide periods, the visible strip of sand becomes significantly narrower, which lends a constant dynamic to the coastal landscape.
The landscape of Cabanas Velhas Beach is dominated by majestic limestone cliffs, sculpted over time by the incessant action of the elements. These geological formations stand out at the ends of the sandy stretch, contributing to the feeling of a natural refuge.
At the base of these imposing formations, it is common to find pebbles and shingle mixed with the fine sand, enriching the texture of the beach. The presence of unique rock formations at both ends of the beach adds a picturesque element to the site, inviting exploration.
Although on certain days the beach may be more exposed to the wind, the eastern section benefits from a natural shelter provided by the cliffs, making it a particularly inviting spot for lingering and for the serene contemplation of the natural environment.
The sea conditions at Cabanas Velhas Beach are dynamic, and may feature calmer waters or slightly rougher seas, so caution is always recommended when swimming. The water in this part of the Atlantic tends to be naturally cool, a common characteristic of the Vicentine Coast.
It is important to take into account the presence of submerged rocks, which are not always easily visible, and the fact that the water deepens quickly. For these reasons, it is advisable to enjoy bathing closer to the shore, especially for those unfamiliar with the particularities of the location.
Despite these aspects, the transparency and cleanliness of the water are notable characteristics and generally valued by visitors, contributing to a quality bathing experience.
