Ingrina Beach is located on the south coast of the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in western Algarve. It is situated in a small indentation of the coastline, forming a natural bay that protects it from stronger winds.
The beach is part of the area designated Praia da Ingrina, near the locality of Hortas do Tabual, and is an integral part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, benefiting from a predominantly natural landscape.
The beach features a sandy area shaped like a shell, nestled between rock formations at its ends. The sandy area's extension is modest, meaning that during periods of higher demand, it can become quite crowded.
A distinctive feature of Ingrina is the serenity of its waters. Being sheltered within the bay, the sea tends to be calm and transparent, making it suitable for those seeking tranquil conditions for swimming, in contrast to the stronger waves often found in this coastal area.
The natural setting is marked by the cliffs bordering the beach, integrated into the protected landscape of the Natural Park. These rock formations also extend to the seabed, creating an underwater environment with points of interest.
The clarity of the waters and the presence of submerged rock structures make Ingrina an inviting place to observe marine life.
In the past, Ingrina bay was connected to fishing activity. For centuries, until the mid-20th century, it was a point used by fishermen, particularly for tuna fishing.
Although the beach stands out for its natural aspect, the surrounding cliffs contain traces of structures once relevant for coastal defense, such as ruins of 18th-century forts. The wider area around it is also known for the presence of megalithic monuments.
Due to its calm waters, the beach is considered a safe and pleasant place to swim. The presence of underwater rock formations allows for activities such as underwater exploration with surface equipment.
Praia da Ingrina is recognized for the quality of its waters and safety, boasting the Blue Flag and having lifeguard surveillance during the bathing season.
