Cova Redonda Beach is located in the coastal area of Alporchinhos, an integral part of the town of Porches, in the municipality of Lagoa. This natural cove is nestled among imposing rock formations that shelter it. Access to the beach is exclusively via a staircase that descends the cliff, starting from the nearby urban area.
The beach offers a medium-sized sandy area, stretching within a bay protected by the surrounding high cliffs. It is a place recognized for its tranquil and serene environment, inviting relaxation and contemplation. The space available on the beach allows visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings calmly, even during peak times. The sand has a composition that includes small stones and shells.
The high escarpments that delineate the beach provide natural protection against the wind, contributing to generally calm seas. These rock formations, resulting from the action of erosion over time, display peculiar contours and shapes. One of the most notable elements is a large rock formation that emerges from the water near the eastern side of the beach, serving as a visual landmark in the landscape. It is prudent to maintain a safe distance from the base of the cliffs, given the possibility of landslides.
The waters at Cova Redonda Beach are typically calm, benefiting from the shelter provided by the cliffs. The depth of the sea increases gradually, becoming particularly shallow in the area closest to the large rock to the east. This specific characteristic near the rock can be appreciated by those who prefer shallow waters.
Reaching the sandy area of Cova Redonda involves navigating a long staircase. Although it consists of a considerable number of steps, the incline is not excessively steep, making the descent relatively easy. The path is accompanied by vegetation that beautifies the descent. The ascent can be more demanding and may require short breaks. Due to the nature of the access, the beach is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
