Situated in the parish of Vila do Bispo, Cordoama Beach is located on the western coast of the Algarve, integrated into the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. It is positioned north of Cape St. Vincent and shares its proximity with Castelejo Beach to the south, to which it connects via the extensive sandy beach at low tide.
Access is via a paved road, which leads to parking areas near the sand, facilitating arrival at this more secluded location.
Cordoama Beach stands out for its vast and open sandy stretch, extending along a long coastal strip. It is flanked by imposing schist cliffs, which give it a wild and sheltered environment.
A small stream, Ribeira do Barranco do Candeeiro, meets the sea here, adding a natural detail to the landscape. The overall atmosphere is one of tranquility, even considering its size.
Characterized by its exposure to the Atlantic Ocean, Cordoama features a frequently agitated sea with consistent swells. These conditions make it particularly sought after by surfers and bodyboarders.
In addition to water activities, the high surrounding cliffs are also a prime spot for paragliding, providing an aerial view of the coast.
Integrated into a protected area, Cordoama maintains a distinctly natural and wild character. At times, a local microclimate can cause morning mist, which usually dissipates throughout the day.
This environment contributes to particularly stunning sunsets, enjoyed from both the sandy beach and the top of the cliffs. From elevated points on the cliff, it is possible to obtain wide views encompassing the extent of the beach, the neighboring Castelejo Beach, and the rock formation known as Pedra da Laje.
