Coelha Beach is located in the Sesmarias area, west of Albufeira city center. Access to the beach involves a walk after reaching the parking area, along a path that crosses vegetation, such as olive and carob trees. The final descent to the beach is via a paved ramp and wooden steps.
This beach is set within a remarkable natural environment, flanked by golden cliffs that protect it from the wind, creating a sheltered cove. It is characterized by the presence of various interesting rock formations, including a natural arch more visible on the western side, which invite exploration. It is important to maintain a safe distance from the cliffs due to the possibility of rockfall.
Coelha Beach's sandy area is composed of golden sand, which near the waterline mixes with shells and small pebbles. The water is generally calm and clear, favorable for swimming and even for snorkeling, allowing observation of some marine life near the rocks. There is, however, a need for some attention due to the presence of submerged rocks, especially on the western side. The beach holds the Blue Flag distinction, attesting to its environmental quality.
The view over Coelha Beach is one of its strong points. The surrounding cliffs offer unique perspectives of the sandy area and the coastline. There are trails atop the cliffs that allow for contemplation of the landscape from a higher vantage point. These locations are particularly appreciated for observing the sunset, providing a memorable scenic spectacle.
The name "Coelha" means female rabbit. Although these animals are not found on the beach, its designation is marked by a distinctive sign near the access. Coelha Beach tends to be less bustling than Albufeira's more central beaches, attracting visitors seeking a more tranquil environment and a more direct connection with the nature of the Algarve coast. It is frequented by locals and tourists, including families and young people.
