Carreagem Beach is located in the area of the same name, near the village of Rogil, in the municipality of Aljezur. This coastal zone is integrated into the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park.
Positioned at the top of the cliff, before starting the descent to the sandy area, there is a point that offers a wide perspective over the coastline and the ocean, allowing observation of the surrounding landscape.
The beach's surroundings are dominated by imposing cliffs that shape the landscape, set within a largely unaltered natural environment. The cliffs display geological formations of great interest, with unique patterns and textures sculpted into the rock over time.
Particularly visible in the northern part of the sandy area during low tide, a rock structure stands out, which, due to its shape, evokes a natural amphitheatre carved into the dark shale. The coastal vegetation, with dunes and characteristic plants such as sea pink, complements the natural setting.
Carreagem Beach is known for its tranquil and wild environment. The sandy area is generally narrow, with a significant presence of rocks, which limits the available sand area for stay, especially during high tide.
The sea in this area can have strong swells and currents, and the presence of submerged rocks on the seabed makes the beach less suitable for swimming. However, low tide reveals natural pools in the rocky areas, which constitute small ecosystems teeming with diverse marine life, ideal for observing coastal fauna and flora. It is a sparsely frequented place, appreciated for its quietness, and also used by local fishermen.
Reaching the sandy area of Carreagem Beach involves a descent path from the top of the cliff. Access is via a trail that includes a wooden staircase. The descent is considered steep in some sections and requires some attention, being part of the experience of reaching this more isolated beach.
During the descent, it is possible to notice some small, simple-looking constructions, traditionally used by fishermen who frequent the area.
