The Picota Viewpoint is located in the Picota area, in the locality of Monte da Gingeira, within the municipality of Monchique. Situated in the heart of the Serra de Monchique, this viewpoint stands at an altitude of 774 meters, establishing itself as the second highest point in this Algarvean mountain range. Its prominent position offers a privileged perspective of the vast surrounding landscape.
From this high point, the view extends across a vast and diverse horizon. One can observe the gentle undulation of the Serra de Monchique, with its verdant valleys and densely wooded slopes. The robust nature of the mountains reveals itself in its full splendor, offering a visual spectacle of different shades of green throughout the seasons. On days with good visibility, it is possible to see the Algarvean coastline on the horizon, providing an interesting contrast between the mountains and the sea.
At the summit of Picota, a watchtower stands out. This structure, a landmark visible from a great distance in the mountain landscape, plays an essential role in the prevention and monitoring of forest fires. Its presence is a reminder of the importance of preserving the natural heritage of the mountains and a symbol of the constant vigilance that protects this green environment.
