The Pillory of Silves is located in the parish and municipality of Silves, in the district of Faro, in Portugal.
A charter was granted to Silves by D. Afonso III in 1266, after the definitive conquest of the city by D. Paio Peres Correia, master of the Order of Santiago. A primitive pillory was erected around 1505, when D. Manuel I granted a new charter to the city.
The current pillory is the result of a remodeling carried out during the reign of D. Maria I. In the past, it was located in Praça do Município (Municipality Square), but in 1878 the City Council dismantled the monument and its fragments were dispersed. Later, it was reassembled, but only the upper part, in the shape of a royal crown, is considered original.
The Pillory of Silves is classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1933.
