A History of Recreation

The presence of the Bandstand in Jardim Pescador Olhanense has a curious history of continuity and transformation. The current Bandstand is not the first to adorn Olhão; it is, in fact, a replica of an original that stood in another part of the city, in the old Public Garden. This primitive garden, which was a popular meeting point, was altered in the 1960s to make way for new constructions. With the demolition of the original bandstand in 1969, Olhão was without this iconic stage for almost two decades. However, in 1986, the city decided to recreate this symbol, building the version admired today, maintaining its essence but in a new and equally central location.

Although in the past the original Bandstand was a vibrant stage for concerts and musical events, its current function is more contemplative. It serves as a scenic element that enriches the atmosphere of Jardim Pescador Olhanense, inviting relaxation and observation.
