Vilamoura Marina is located in the urbanisation of the same name, a landmark in the town of Quarteira, which belongs to the municipality of Loulé. Situated on the Algarve coast, its central position within Vilamoura defines the surrounding landscape. The vast expanse of water, dotted with vessels, creates a distinct atmosphere, inviting visitors to stroll along its shores and offering a unique perspective on the region's maritime dynamics.
Vilamoura Marina holds a prominent place in the history of nautical development in Portugal. Conceived over five decades ago, it was one of the first infrastructures of its kind to be implemented in the country, paving the way for the growth of nautical tourism. Throughout its existence, it has consolidated its position as the largest national marina, being internationally recognised for its quality and its contribution to the region's reputation as a prime destination for recreational boating.
The design of Vilamoura Marina is a remarkable example of port engineering, conceived to ensure safety and functionality. The entrance is protected by two robust breakwaters, 660 meters to the west and 430 meters to the east, which form a sheltered outer harbour. Through a channel, access is gained to the carefully dimensioned inner harbour. The marina offers 825 berths, capable of accommodating a wide range of vessels, from small sailboats to larger yachts, with the capacity to receive ships up to 60 meters in length, adapting to various drafts.
The atmosphere at Vilamoura Marina is marked by the continuous presence of vessels which, with their diversity of shapes and sizes, create a visually captivating panorama. The design of the space allows visitors to enjoy relaxed strolls along the water, where observing marine life and the architecture surrounding the basin becomes a central activity. It is a place that merges the serenity of the aquatic element with human activity, providing a pleasant setting for a walk or for the simple contemplation of the nautical landscape and the sophistication of maritime design.
