A charming chapel built in the early 17th century, with a discreet facade, but hides a magnificent interior.
Inside the chapel, you will find an impressive altarpiece, made of gilded wood carvings, and walls covered with 18th-century tiles.
At the entrance, a glass floor panel displays vestiges of the Islamic defensive structure discovered during restoration work.
Although small, the chapel is a Baroque treasure, with an impressive altar and beautiful tiles.
The altar is decorated with gilded sacred sculptures and is a masterpiece by the sculptor Miguel Nobre, assembled in 1745.
The tiles covering the walls depict biblical scenes and were painted by Valentim de Almeida in the first half of the 18th century.
Open from Tuesday to Saturday, the chapel is a must-see attraction in Loulé.
This chapel may go unnoticed among the surrounding buildings, but it should definitely not be missed for its beauty and unique details.
A visit to this chapel offers a moment of serenity and appreciation of Baroque art in Loulé.
