Its transfer to the Third Order of Saint Francis marked a new phase in its evolution, culminating in its designation as the Parish Church of São Sebastião at the end of the 19th century, a relevant milestone for the community of Loulé.

Inside, one of the points of greatest interest is the chancel, which displays a splendid Baroque altarpiece in gilded carving. In addition to its architectural value, the church plays a role of great cultural significance in Loulé, being the place where the float of the Mother Sovereign is kept between the Festa Pequena and the Festa Grande, events of deep symbolism for the population.
