Molhe Beach is located in the Azinhaga area, in the town of Ferragudo, belonging to the municipality of Lagoa. It is positioned at the mouth of the Arade River, at the point where the river waters meet the Atlantic Ocean.
Access to the beach is via a stone staircase, carved into the surrounding cliff. From the top, before descending, there is an elevated area that allows for observation of the surroundings.
The cliffs framing Molhe Beach stand out for their warm tones. They present a visible rock formation, with cracks and stone blocks on the sand that bear witness to the natural erosion of time.
On the rocky walls of these cliffs, examples of local vegetation adapted to the saline environment can be found, such as saltwort and saltbush shrubs.
The beach's name directly derives from the long stone jetty that characterizes it. This engineering element extends across the river mouth, functioning as a barrier that influences the behavior of the waters.
The presence of the jetty gives the beach a notable peculiarity: it divides it into two distinct areas. On the side facing the interior of the Arade estuary, the water is generally very calm. On the other hand, on the side facing the open sea, the sandy area tends to be more consistent and the waves are more frequent.
Molhe Beach's position, at the transition between the river and the ocean, offers interesting perspectives. From here, one can observe the dynamics of the river bar, the entry and exit of vessels, and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.
The view also reaches the opposite bank of the Arade River, where the silhouette and boats of Portimão Marina can be sighted.
