Lagos Urban Evolution Interpretation Center

- The third room covers the interval from the 18th century to the beginning of the 21st century.

History

- Built in 1665 by order of D. António de Almeida, second Count of Avintes.

- Originally used as a saddlery and part of the Coroa Barracks.

- Presents similarities with the Regimental Warehouse, being part of the expansion and rationalization program of the support buildings for the city's garrison.

- Later used as a workshop and armorer's warehouse, without significant changes to its original structure.

- Property of the Portuguese Army until 1980, passing to the Portuguese Red Cross.

Restoration and Transformation

- Building was in a state of degradation until the 1990s.

- Rehabilitation plan was implemented by the Lagos City Council.

- Restored and transformed into a museological center as part of the Lagos Museum Plan Network.

- Inaugurated on October 25, 2008 during the Municipality Day celebrations.

- Classified as a Property of municipal interest in 2013.

Future plans

- In 2022, the Municipal Museum plans to reopen the Armorer's Warehouse with different functions, focusing on a more contemporary phase of the city's history.
