Locally known as "Balalaica", Casa do Sal occupies a historic building that stands out for its heritage value. This space was once a warehouse, an example of a construction typology common in the coastal area of Castro Marim. These warehouses served various functions essential to the region's economy, reflecting the social and commercial dynamics of times past. Its restoration was carefully carried out, respecting the traditional techniques and materials that characterise local architecture, preserving the authenticity and history of the building.
Casa do Sal is today a reference point for the appreciation and promotion of traditional salt production. This cultural space is dedicated to keeping alive the importance of salt for Castro Marim, an ancestral activity that shaped the landscape and identity of the region. Through its different areas, Casa do Sal seeks to dynamise local culture, hosting activities that celebrate this unique legacy. The space also includes an area dedicated to the exhibition of salt production products from Castro Marim, allowing for a deeper understanding of this ancient art.
