The Casa da Coroa is located in the heart of the village of Alcantarilha, within the municipality of Silves, in the Algarve. This building stands out in the center of the locality, situated precisely in the Largo da Igreja. Its central position within the urban fabric of Alcantarilha allows for a clear observation of its unique presence and how it fits into the oldest part of the village.
This property, classified as a Building of Municipal Interest, stands out for its architectural uniqueness. Its main facade, facing the square, exhibits a remarkable dimension and a distinctive color, with its walls painted in a vibrant red tone that differentiates it from the surrounding urban ensemble.
The Casa da Coroa features a structure that adapts to the terrain's unevenness, revealing two floors at the front and three at the rear. On the first floor, an elegant continuous iron balcony runs along the facade, supported by five balcony doors. Inside, the murals and an imposing connecting staircase, whose iron railing mirrors the design of the exterior balconies, are noteworthy.
The construction of the Casa da Coroa probably dates back to the late 19th century or early 20th century. It was built by order of João Narciso D'Oliva, a figure who, at the time, stood out for his influence and contributions to various parish works in the region. The building was initially conceived as a grand wealthy residence, reflecting the social status of its original owner, an aspect that is evident in the grandeur and details of its noble facade.
