Located in Carvoeiro, within the municipality of Lagoa, Praia dos Três Castelos is sheltered by the imposing cliffs typical of this coastal stretch.
The main access to the sand is via a steep staircase descending from the top of the cliff. At the summit, before going down, it is possible to enjoy unobstructed views of the beach, the rock formations in the water, and the coastline from an observation point.
The peculiar name of Praia dos Três Castelos derives precisely from the presence of three large rock formations that stand out in the waterline, next to the sandy shore.
Beyond these marine "sentinels," the entire length of the beach is marked by the presence of various rocks and outcrops in the sand and at the base of the cliffs. These geological elements give the landscape a robust and visually interesting character.
The sandy area of Praia dos Três Castelos is composed of fine, golden sand, maintained in good condition and cleanliness. The water quality is annually recognized, proudly bearing the Blue Flag distinction.
The sea conditions are, most of the time, calm, with little agitation, making it particularly inviting for safe swimming and water activities. These characteristics, along with its more secluded size, make it an option for those seeking a calmer environment, being popular with families. Beach supervision by lifeguards contributes to safety during the bathing season.
Those accessing the beach or simply strolling through the surrounding area at the top of the cliff are rewarded with panoramic views encompassing the entire sandy area and the coastal outline. It is a privileged spot to appreciate the geological beauty and the arrangement of the characteristic rocks.
However, the imposing presence of the cliffs demands caution: it is highly recommended to avoid seeking shade or staying too close to the base of the cliff, as there is a natural and unpredictable risk of collapses and falling stones. Safety should always be a priority.
