Cais E is located in the city of Lagos, integrated into the area known as Bairro Operário. This space is part of the revitalized Waterfront, offering an open perspective on the water and the landscape of the Ria de Bensafrim. It is a place that invites a peaceful riverside stroll, benefiting from an urban setting that preserves access to the riverside area.
This location, historically known by different designations such as Cais da Ribeira, Cais de Alcântara, or Cais da Alfândega, played a fundamental role in Lagos' past. During the 15th century, it was the main point of arrival and departure for the city, functioning as a true antechamber to its main entrance. The old gates of Lagos' 16th-century wall connected directly to this area, allowing circulation between the walls and access to the urban center.
Throughout the 20th century, part of this area was buried for the construction of an avenue, losing its original visibility. However, its historical importance led to its subsequent recovery and reintegration into the urban landscape, as part of revitalization programs that brought it back to light, allowing its relevance in the city's maritime history to be appreciated.
Cais E is now presented as a privileged point for observing the movement of the Ria de Bensafrim and aquatic life. It is a serene place, ideal for contemplating the vessels that glide on the water and feeling the breeze that comes from the estuary. Its riverside position provides an unobstructed view of the landscape, inviting moments of quietude and reflection.
