Pier A is located in the city of Lagos, integrated into the requalification of its Riverside Front. This area, adjacent to the Bairro Operário (Workers' Quarter), offers a unique perspective on the river and the surrounding urban dynamics, situated in a central and historically relevant part of the city.
This site marks the presence of an old pier, once fundamental for the daily life and trade of Lagos. Positioned between the Governor's Castle and what was the Casa da Dízima (Tithes House), the pier served as a vital access point to the city. It was a key element, allowing circulation and flow between the 16th-century walls and the riverside, which was then the heart of maritime activities.
During the 1940s, the area where the pier was located was covered to make way for Avenida da Guiné. However, through an urban requalification project, this historic area was rediscovered and carefully integrated into the current landscape. Pier A is now a visible evocation of that past, allowing visitors to observe the remains of an infrastructure that shaped Lagos' port life throughout the centuries.
Today, Pier A invites contemplation. Its presence in the modern landscape of the Riverside Front offers a vantage point for observing the waterline and vessels. It is an invitation to imagine the past activities at this location, connecting the city's present to its rich maritime and historical journey.
