Benamor Golf is located in Calçadinha, an area within the parish of Conceição, in the municipality of Tavira. This location is set on gently undulating terrain, offering expansive views of the surrounding landscape. To the north, the gaze reaches the mountains, while to the south, the Atlantic Ocean is visible. Its location combines the tranquility of the countryside with the proximity of the Algarve coast, integrating seamlessly into the region's natural landscape.
The history of Benamor Golf dates back to 1986, when the owners of Quinta de Benamor sought out Sir Henry Cotton to design the first golf course in the eastern Algarve. Although Cotton, a renowned champion, passed away before construction began, his original plans were subsequently developed by architect Howard Swan. The 18-hole course opened its doors at the turn of the new millennium. Some mention the proximity of the clubhouse to an old disused church, suggesting a possible inspiration for Cotton's involvement in this project.
The 18-hole course at Benamor Golf unfolds across a natural Algarve landscape. The fairways are bordered by almond, carob, cork, and olive trees, characteristic elements of the local flora that contribute to the beauty and setting of the game. Elevation changes along the course are frequent but not overly demanding, making the experience enjoyable. Some points on the course offer shots that challenge and delight, such as downhill approaches to greens strategically located beyond ravines or protected by water and sand bunkers. There is also an area dedicated to practice.
