The Barranco do Demo Walkways are located in the area that gives them their name, the Barranco do Demo, in the locality of Alferce, which is part of the municipality of Monchique. Surrounded by the mountainous landscape of the Algarve, the site harmoniously integrates into the natural environment, offering unobstructed views over the valleys and hillsides of the mountains. Its position allows for a direct contact experience with nature, away from more urbanized areas, while remaining accessible within the Alferce region.
This place is characterized by a series of wooden walkways that wind through a particular section of the Barranco do Demo. The central point of the route is the crossing of an imposing gorge, done via a remarkable suspension bridge. This structure, approximately 50 meters long, hangs at a considerable height over the rocky bottom of the ravine, offering an aerial perspective of the geological formation. The route also includes several sets of stairs and slopes, which gives the walk a dynamic and, at times, challenging character.
Visiting the Barranco do Demo Walkways offers an opportunity for a deep immersion in the natural beauty of the Algarve mountains. Along the route, visitors can appreciate the exuberance of the local flora and the serenity of the mountainous environment. The views revealed with each step are vast and panoramic, extending over valleys and ridges, culminating in stunning landscapes. The route is a unique way to experience Monchique's rugged landscape, with the walkway structure guiding the eye towards the most striking elements of the ravine.
