The Vendas Novas Municipal Public Garden is located in the town of Vendas Novas, situated within the Doutor Luis Manuel da Silva Viana de Sá neighborhood. Its central location, with one of its entrances adjacent to National Road N.º 4, makes it an easily accessible point for those exploring the city. Thus, it offers an oasis of tranquility and nature in the heart of the urban area.

Its Origin and Nature

Inaugurated in 1993, this green space occupies a vast area of approximately four hectares, which formerly corresponded to two agricultural farms. During its development, special attention was given to preserving the original character of the site, integrating pre-existing natural and historical elements. Visitors can still observe cork oaks, holm oaks, and large palm trees, as well as various orchards, such as an old orange grove. Traditional water harnessing structures, such as wells, tanks, and irrigation channels, were also maintained and adapted, testifying to the area's rural past and contributing to its uniqueness.

Water and Scenic Environment

The presence of water is one of the most striking aspects of the Public Garden, lending it an atmosphere of serenity. The site is adorned with a tranquil water mirror and a large lake, elements that perfectly integrate into the surrounding extensive lawns. Together with the abundant vegetation and the diversity of flowers and trees, these aquatic features create a captivating setting for strolling and relaxation. It is considered the city's "green lung," ideal for enjoying sunny afternoons and mild summer evenings.

Leisure and Cultural Spaces

The garden is a dynamic place, designed to offer various possibilities for leisure and activity. Notable features include an open-air amphitheater, capable of hosting cultural performances, such as the "Summer Nights" that enliven the city. For children, there is a playground with a variety of modern equipment, and for physical activity enthusiasts, a rink for roller skates and skateboards, as well as a wellness circuit. Along the path, visitors can discover a permanent exhibition of sculptures by master Hélder Batista, an artist from Vendas Novas, enriching the experience with art. A birdcage adds an element of interest to one of the paths, and there are various areas designated for picnics, inviting moments of outdoor socializing.
