Located in the parish of Évora (São Mamede, Sé, São Pedro and Santo Antão), the Water Tank of Rua Nova is an essential historical monument of the city of Évora.
Built around the 16th century, this structure is part of the Aqueduct of Água de Prata. It presents a simple architectural style, with columns of Tuscan influence, standing out more for its utilitarian function than for its ornamentation.
Inserted in the Historic Center of Évora, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the water tank is a living testimony of the history and civil engineering of the region.
The project was conceived by the Mannerist architect Miguel de Arruda, contributing to the beauty and functionality of the aqueduct that supplied the city over the centuries.
Since 1922, the Water Tank of Rua Nova has been classified as a Property of Public Interest, recognized for its artistic, archaeological and historical value according to specific legal decrees.
